Find some hidden expenses in your car insurance such as B. Healthcare?
September 26, 2022

If you own a car, you are probably paying for some unnecessary "extras". For example, if you already have health insurance, why do you need “health insurance” in your car insurance? Have you ever asked your car insurance company what that means? So what if you get into a car accident and get injured? Will your current health insurance wait for your car insurance to kick in because you have that "health insurance," thus delaying claims? How long will this be delayed and will this affect your health insurance coverage as a "long delay" will cost you more medical expenses for missing the filing date? It all sounds familiar, doesn't it? But if you don't have health insurance and you get injured in a car accident, this "health insurance" can help pay some of your medical bills (I did).
In general, this "medical portion" of your auto insurance MAY cover the following, but be sure to ask your auto insurance agent for an explanation:
- Some funeral expenses
- Passengers who could be injured while you or a family member are driving
- If you are an injured passenger in someone else's car
- If you are hit by a car while walking or cycling
- If you need dental care after an accident
- If you need extended care services or hospitalization during rehabilitation
- If you need prostheses
So if you're doing a "summer clean" and trying to uncover cost savings because you're concerned about that mysterious increase in your health insurance premium, be sure to call your auto insurance company and start asking questions (and make sure you document the answers).
Start with these warm-up questions: Do you really need the car rental option if you have a new car? How does this loss of income actually help you and in what situation? When does this physical injury actually occur and on what part of your body?
If you're feeling warmed up to the point that the auto insurance agent is sweating, ask about the "medical bills." What is the absolute minimum requirement in your state? What does it cover? What about your current health insurance? When does it occur?
Also, don't be afraid to ask for other discounts, including any new discounts You might qualify for this. In the end, you might find that you've saved yourself a few hundred bucks on your car insurance; enough to pay your new health insurance premiums...I know I did 🙂
